Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine educates aspiring physicians to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community- based, distributed model of education, which fosters inclusion, discovery and innovation. The UIWSOM invites applications for the Core Site Director.
The Core Site Director reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and is responsible for coordinating the administration of clinical clerkships at the facilities in their region in a manner that serves the best interest of students, maintains the highest standards of academic integrity in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the SOM.
The Director also maintains a collaborative and supportive relationship with the Assistant Dean for Medical and Interprofessional Education other administrators, students, faculty and staff in keeping with the UIW social justice mission and ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation standards and state and federal regulations.
We are seeking Core Site Directors in the following cities; Laredo (one position), Abilene/San Angelo/ Brownwood (one position), San Antonio (three positions), Kerville (one position).
Essential Functions
1. In collaboration with the Office for Clinical Affairs, recruit, develop, and maintain the roster of Adjunct Clinical Faculty at assigned clinical sites.
2. Collaboratively work as part of a team, assisting the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to assist with the transition of students to their clinical sites.
3. Oversee the implementation of the third and fourth year clinical program at their assigned sites, in conjunction with the Clerkship Directors for each rotation.
4. In conjunction with the Core Site Coordinator, serve as the liaison between the third and fourth year students and the UIWSOM.
5. Work closely and collaboratively with the Clerkship Directors to ensure that the necessary and desired educational content is addressed and optimal learning methods are utilized.
6. Meet with clinical faculty, Site Coordinators, and Office for Clinical Affairs staff as necessary.
7. Work closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and the Assistant Dean for Medical and Interprofessional Education to provide any necessary data or information that is required to ensure compliance with the directives and requirements of the COCA and other regulatory bodies.
8. Address any academic or professional issues involving students, faculty, or staff, in collaboration with the Office for Clinical Affairs.
9. Develop and effectively communicate course/clerkship objectives and outcome measures to adjunct faculty and students.
10. Communicate regularly with the adjunct faculty to make them aware of any significant changes in national or institutional educational developments, directives or policies that may impact the course/clerkship.
11. Work closely with the adjunct faculty to encourage ongoing quality improvement in the course/clerkship including improvements in course/clerkship content, refinement of learning objectives, and development of improved assessment instruments.
12. Review and respond appropriately to student course/clerkship evaluation information, including meeting with student review panels, when appropriate.
13. Develop and review outcome measures to assess the achievement of learning objectives within the competencies, and provide feedback, when requested, to the Office for Clinical Affairs, Phase 3-4 Subcommittee and the Curriculum Committee.

Required Education
DO or MD degree.
Required Work Experience
1. 3-5 years of experience in undergraduate or graduate clinical medical education.
2. Demonstrated commitment to the UIW social justice mission.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English, and to work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
4. Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with social media, academic LMS, and web conferencing software.
5. Experience managing competing deadlines and priorities to effectively meet project timelines and other deadlines.
6. Experience working within a flexible team environment in support of new and developing policies, processes, and efficiencies.
7. Experience recruiting and supervising staff.
8. Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork.
9. Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
10. Demonstrated technical skills to develop and maintain online resources.
11. Demonstrated capacity to contribute expertise, provide constructive professional feedback, and foster administrative and curricular innovations.
12. Passion for, and commitment to medical student education for purposes of optimizing patient outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
1. DO Degree.
2. Prior experience as a Director of Medical Education, clerkship director or clinical faculty.
3. Knowledge of clinical assessment tools (COMAT, COMLEX, Mini-CEX, OSCEs, etc.).
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
1. Board certification.
2. Active Texas license.
3. May be required to transport oneself and others to other UIW offices, UIWSOM affiliated clinical sites, and to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. As such must possess a valid drivers license and be insurable by the Universitys insurance carrier.
Work Hours
Normal work hours are expected to be from 8am to 5pm Central Time, however there may be occasional evening or weekend work required.
Physical Demands
Ability to tolerate exposure to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
