About the Opportunity:
The Director of Strategic Partnerships and Funds, College of Professional Studies (CPS) is a strategic partner in the impactful and transparent awarding and stewarding of current and endowed funds at the College of Professional Studies. The Director works closely with the dean and senior members of the College to project charitable income and to develop, in collaboration with academic faculty and staff, multi-year plans for strategic investments of philanthropic funds. They interact on a regular basis with academic leaders, staff, students, and donors at the College of Professional Studies as well as colleagues in Advancement.
Responsibilities:
The Director works closely with the Director of Major Gifts at the College to ensure that past donors are properly stewarded and cultivated for new gifts, when appropriate. The Director is an advocate for donors, ensuring that endowed and current use funds are expended in accordance with donor wishes, and spent in a timely and effective way. They make sure that academic and staff partners are trained to utilize these gifts properly.
The Director is responsible for administrative functions including oversight of all reports and acknowledgements to donors. This involves collaboration and coordination with colleagues in Advancement. They will work closely with colleagues in Donor Relations in Central Advancement to ensure that the highest standards of good stewardship take place at the College of Professional Studies.
The Director advises the dean on the intent and expectations of donors and provides guidance on appropriate strategic and impactful investments to maximize their effect on the long-term well-being of the College and the students. This includes developing multi-year plans for strategic investments in current and future philanthropic gifts. The Director will proactively partner with academic leaders to create a vision for utilizing philanthropic investments.
The Director is responsible for oversight of all scholarship funds at the College of Professional Studies. This includes directing an annual scholarship award process, requiring coordination with colleagues in financial aid, IT, and the registrar's office in order to launch the application process, monitor applications, and collect additional student information in order to make awards that meet the exact criteria of each scholarship. The Director will convene the initial alumni review committee as well as the final award meeting involving colleagues in financial aid and student learner success. They will coordinate all communications to students and oversee the collection of thank you letters. They will also coordinate the annual scholarship celebration for donors, student recipients, as well as CPS faculty and staff.
The Director creates policies and trains appropriate personnel on key matters related to fund administration and the value of philanthropy. The Director will be visionary, highly organized, and able to adapt nimbly to changing priorities. They will be both proactive in developing strategies to improve the effective utilization of gifts while overseeing stewardship and the scholarship award process. A gifted collaborator with a wide-ranging understanding of higher education and the opportunities for adult professional education, the Director will play a key role in identifying and communicating strategic uses of past and future philanthropic investments.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience, preferably working in higher education including a minimum of two (2) years of experience specific to stewardship, donor relations, and/or fund management. Must have a broad-based understanding of the challenges and opportunities in academic programs designed for adult learners. Must have a proven record of accomplishment in big-picture thinking and helping drive stakeholders in this vision. Must be able to recognize and resolve complex problems and think creatively and collaborate with a broad range of academic partners to help the dean develop a strategic philanthropic vision The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills; be able to create and maintain systems and processes; organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines; and, adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances. A dedication to collaboration and an ability to maintain a customer-service attitude when interacting with donors and other constituents is key. Flexibility, with a demonstrated history of creative and strategic thinking, and proactivity and willingness to learn new skills is necessary.
