Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Health and Wellness, the Director of the Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Advocacy (IVPA) office is a critical member of Bucknell University's Division of Students Affairs Health and Wellness Pillar and plays a key leadership role in strengthening collaborations among the pillar, the Division of Student Affairs, and the larger campus community through the coordination of advocacy services and prevention education activities that support all Bucknell students and foster a campus of respect and safety for all of campus.

This is a full-time (40 hour), 12-month, exempt (salary) benefits eligible position based in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

Job Duties:

LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION:
  • Provide thoughtful leadership, direction, and vision for IVPA office in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs, Bucknell Health and Wellness pillar, and the University's goals and strategic plan.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and identities of Bucknell students and promotes cultural competency among staff.
  • Develop and implement high quality programs and services to align with state and federal regulations, as well as engage in data collection and analysis to ensure compliance.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of institution's commitment to a national initiative (NASPA Culture of Respect), as well as represent office in a second national initiative out of the Title IX office (National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education)
  • Prepare reports summarizing data trends of the office to educate the community as well to advocate for resources.
  • Recruit, hire, train, advise, and supervise peer educators that provide student-led campus initiatives and awareness campaigns related to IPV.


ADVOCACY:
  • Provide trauma-informed direct advocacy services, by offering confidential support and referral assistance to students impacted by sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and stalking.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key members of campus community, as needed, to help advance the needs and interests of student survivors and their families.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices by continuing education and advance level certifications.
  • Maintain relationships with community partners integral to providing advocacy (borough police, hospital staff, and local non-profit/community agencies)


COMMUNITY BASED EDUCATION, COLLABORATION AND CONSULTATION:
  • Lead the campus Community Ally program, including recruiting, training, advising, and supervising the staff/faculty, athletic and Greek students who participate.
  • Facilitate dialogue with campus partners (faculty, staff, and student groups) about consent, boundaries, and healthy sexuality that empowers individuals and the greater Bucknell community.
  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator in educating the campus community about the University's policies and procedures related to sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with colleagues in other relevant offices/departments, including but not limited to Athletics, Bucknell Student Health, the Counseling & Student Development Center, the Office of Residential Education, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, Office of LGBTQ Resources, Multicultural Student Services, Women's Resource Center, and academic departments such as Women's & Gender Studies.
  • Help with the coordination of No More Month, Take Back the Night, Red Flag Campaign, Sex Positive Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and several other programming initiatives.
  • Serve as a consultant to campus constituents on educational issues related to sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.
  • Develop and distribute print and electronic educational materials (posters, brochures, website, social media, etc.) or other passive programming efforts that address sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
  • Engage in the annual review, revision, and regular maintenance of the web resources that address sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
  • Serve on Division and University-wide committees.
  • Other duties as assigned, as assigned by and/or in consultation with the Associate Dean of Health and Wellness.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Public Health, Social Work, or other relevant professional field.
  • Three years or more of professional experience providing advocacy related services or prevention education programming focused on interpersonal violence.
  • Experience as a proven leader, thinker, strategist, and manager with demonstrated ability and effectiveness in developing, implementing, and assessing educational programs and campaigns.
  • Expertise in providing advocacy to college students. Experience in risk assessment and crisis intervention. Knowledge of best practices and legal, ethical, and regulatory issues in IPV advocacy and services provision.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience relevant to healthy sexuality, sexual misconduct prevention, and/or dating violence prevention education.
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to student growth and development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and successfully across cultures and styles at all levels of the organization.
  • This individual must be able to work independently, communicate effectively and creatively through written and oral presentations.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across disciplines and campus partners.
  • Three or more years of experience working in a higher education institution.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize utilization and other data to assist in advocating for resources and in educating the campus community about trends.
  • Knowledge of models of prevention and health promotion and experience conducting community outreach.
  • Certifications: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and/or state or national advocacy certification Experience managing a budget and applying for grants.
  • Interest and experience conducting academic research and presenting findings at professional conferences.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; sit or stand at a computer and use a mouse/keyboard for long periods of time.
  • Able to move about the office to access file cabinets and office equipment such as phones, copiers and printers.
  • Able to work in an environment with a moderate level of interruptions.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
