What We Are Looking For

Baylor Law School seeks an enthusiastic and energetic individual to serve as the Director of Alumni Relations. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for encouraging alumni participation in the life of the Law School by developing, executing, and growing a comprehensive engagement plan designed to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, and personal and professional development.

The Director will have the exciting opportunity to build upon current alumni relations programming and to identify and implement new objectives to enhance and enrich alumni relations. The successful candidate also will serve as an active partner with a dynamic team to ensure positive and purposeful alumni, prospect, and donor relations.

A Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant work experience is required. A JD and three years of relevant work experience is preferred.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and affinity for Baylor Law School that includes an understanding of Baylor Law's mission
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • The ability to conceive and execute a strategic vision for the Alumni Office
  • The ability to develop a comprehensive communications plan
  • The ability to establish and maintain efficient and effective working relationships with Baylor Lawyers, Baylor Law administration, faculty, students, Baylor University partners, and all other constituents
  • Superior skills to multi-task, prioritize, exercise good judgment, work independently as well as in collaboration, and exhibit excellence in project management
  • Commitment to professionalism, inclusion, and appropriate management of personnel and resources
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • Flexibility to occasionally work in the evenings, early morning, and sometimes on weekends

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • Strong preference for a Baylor Lawyer
  • Journalism or marketing experience
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement activities preferably in fundraising and annual giving
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Licensed member of a state bar and in good standing

What You Will Do
  • Develop an annual strategic plan to build affinity and increase engagement with Baylor Lawyer
  • Track the effectiveness of all aspects of alumni engagement and benchmark against best practices
  • Collaborate with the Baylor Law Alumni Association's Executive Committee members to increase membership and provide meaningful opportunities for engagement with the Association
  • Create opportunities to engage and better support Baylor Lawyers in all practice areas
  • Manage calendaring and coordination of all alumni events that meet diverse alumni needs, including Alumni Weekend, Homecoming activities, alumni receptions, class and affinity group reunions and gatherings, on-campus alumni visits, and special events to honor Baylor Lawyers
  • Coordinate regular communication with alumni. Provide oversight to all alumni marketing and communication efforts, including in web, print, and social media
  • Assist with maintaining a volunteer management system that supports the objective of engaging alumni in meaningful volunteer opportunities at the Law School
  • Develop a method of systematically recognizing alumni for contributions to Baylor Law School and the legal profession
  • Support the Career Development Office with requests for alumni information and coordinate with the office on facilitating opportunities for student employment and mentoring with Baylor Law alumni
  • Collaborate with the Law School Senior Director of Development in identifying opportunities to strengthen and honor relationships with Baylor Law alumni. Facilitate the identified opportunities that will serve as a significant part of Baylor Law's annual giving strategy (Giving Day, courtyard bricks, end-of-year appeal, special solicitations, etc.)
  • Develop connections between Baylor Law student organizations and alumni who have an affinity for the mission of such organizations
  • Remain knowledgeable about the best practices for alumni engagement
  • Participate in professional association groups relating to alumni engagement
  • Coordinate with the Senior Director of Development to direct and supervise the activities of support staff and ensure a commitment to developing a high-performance culture
