What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to support the mission and vision of Baylor University at the School of Music. As a senior-level administrator reporting to the Dean, the Director is charged with ensuring that all activities in support of the School's strategic plan are presented effectively and successfully to all audiences and constituencies to fortify the brand, support its mission, engage/represent faculty, staff, and students and align with the university's branding strategy and guidelines.
A Bachelor's Degree in communication, journalism, English, public relations, or related field, four years of relevant work experience and one year of management experience in relevant field is required. A Master's Degree, six years of relevant work experience, and two years of experience leading and supervising a team is preferred.

What You Will Do
Department Specific Responsibilities
- In coordination with the Dean, the director serves as the School of Music's liaison to Baylor Marketing and other university offices and campus units as appropriate and is a key advisor, contributor, and participant in the School's short and long-term strategic planning in the areas of communications, marketing, and publicity
- Leads the design, development, and execution of the School's communications, marketing, and publicity plans, with a focus on the acquisition and development of digital media. The plan will target internal and external audiences through traditional and social media, addressing the needs of the School - which include recruitment, admissions, faculty/student/alumni/donor/patron profiles, season ticket sales and audience development, the reputational management of the school, other activities or programs identified as mission centric
- Assists with the further development of a calendar of office trends and practices, ensuring that the office is prepared to respond to the occasional immediate needs of a communications effort
- Implements disciplined approaches to brand strategy, creative development, and media deployment.
- Generates new revenue streams including achieving ticket sales goals via a multifaceted subscription and individual ticket sales campaign for School of Music concerts and events
- Tracks, reports, and analyzes marketing metrics to determine the effectiveness of communications efforts and establish strategies and plans to meet the communications needs of its clients
- Working closely with the Dean, leads and manages the creative and administrative functions of the Office of Marketing & Communications and is an integral participant in evaluation and determining the office's culture and structure to reach the optimum balance with both personnel and process
- Provides leadership and supervision to the Office of Marketing & Communications staff
General Responsibilities
- Directs operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a department, large multi-faceted department, or multiple departments
- Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of the marketing and communications team
- Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines communications needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and manages processes such as the development of communications timelines related to such initiatives
- Reviews drafts of communications and projects and coaches on grammar, tone, branding guidelines, formatting, and other elements that may affect the perception of messaging or reputation of the department
- Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
- Assists in budget planning and administration for communications initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and program costs
- Monitors industry trends and best practices, makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager, and assists in implementing recommendations to optimize operations and progress toward objectives
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
