The Senior Director of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a pivotal leadership role in the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Division responsible for enhancing the quality of life and academic success of students through innovative and inclusive residential programs. The role demands exceptional strategic vision and operational insight to foster a vibrant, supportive, and safe living-learning environment that aligns with UCCS' mission of dynamic responsible growth and inclusive diversity. The RLH program has an approximately $14 million dollar operating budget, with 1719 beds.

All employees of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) are required to complete training on policies and procedures administered by the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE), under the supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Institutional Equity/Title IX Coordinator. Required training includes: understanding and reporting conduct prohibited by the sexual misconduct, protected class nondiscrimination, and conflicts of interest in cases of amorous relationships policies, related retaliation, and compliance with accommodations regarding disability, pregnancy or related conditions, and religion. All employees are also designated as "responsible employees" and are required to report conduct prohibited under these policies, and student disclosures of pregnancy or related conditions directly to the OIE and to provide OIE's contact information to any student disclosing pregnancy or related conditions. Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
Experience: At least ten years of progressive leadership experience in residence life or a related field, with a proven track record in strategic planning and program development.
Skills: Advanced leadership skills, expert knowledge of current trends and challenges in higher education and student affairs, strong fiscal management capabilities, and crisis management expertise.
Physical Requirements:
The Senior Director of Residence Life must be able to navigate the campus facilities frequently, which includes walking significant distances between buildings and occasionally managing stairs. The role requires sitting for extended periods, particularly when working on administrative tasks or during meetings. The position occasionally demands physical activities such as lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds. Adequate visual and auditory ability is necessary to effectively communicate with staff and students and manage daily department operations.

Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic Vision and Leadership: Craft and communicate a compelling vision for the future of residence life at UCCS that aligns with institutional priorities and student needs. Spearhead major strategic initiatives such as integrating technology in housing, developing new living-learning communities, and sustainability practices within residential facilities.
- Operational Excellence and Fiscal Management: Direct all operational aspects of the residence life program, including long-term planning and day-to-day management. Manage complex budgets with multiple funding sources, ensuring fiscal sustainability and strategic use of resources.
- Team Development and Leadership: Foster a culture of excellence and a collaborative and professional work environment within the residence life staff through robust professional development, performance management, and team-building initiatives. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise professional staff, administrative personnel, and student staff. Act as a mentor and coach to staff at all levels, promoting leadership development and succession planning.
- Crisis Management and Risk Assessment: Lead the department's response to crises affecting the residential community. Develop and refine comprehensive risk management strategies to enhance student safety and well-being. Serve as senior on-call administrator.
- Policy Development: Develop policies that ensure a high standard of living, promote equity, and support the university's academic mission. Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and best practices in residential life.
- Student Engagement and Support: Innovate and oversee the implementation of comprehensive residence life programming that addresses students' educational, emotional, and social needs, and promotes student engagement, leadership development, and community building.
- Collaborative Engagement and Advocacy: Build strong partnerships with academic departments, student services, and external stakeholders to enhance residential programs and services. Advocate for the needs and priorities of the residential student population within the university's governance structures. Serve as Residence Life CARE Team Representative.
- External and Community Relations: Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with local government, community organizations, and industry leaders to facilitate community-engaged projects and enhance student living experience. Represent UCCS at national and international conferences to share best practices and learn from global trends in university housing.
- Research and Assessment: Champion the use of data-driven decision-making in residence life. Regularly assess the effectiveness of programs and initiatives, using insights to drive improvements and demonstrate impacts on student retention and success.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Actively promote an inclusive environment that respects and values the diversity of the UCCS community. Implement initiatives that support the cultural competence and global readiness of all residents.
