The School of Management (SOM) at Simmons University has an over 50 year legacy of excellence in Business and Management education focused on empowering women. We launched the first MBA program designed specifically for women in 1972, after many decades of undergraduate education at our women centered college. After stepping back from graduate education in 2020, the SOM focused specifically on our undergraduate curriculum, with majors in Accounting, Business & Management, Finance, Marketing and Retail Management. Our students graduate and join an exceptional network of undergraduate and graduate alumnae working across for-profit, nonprofit and government agency management and leadership roles.

Today, with a faculty anchored in our legacy majors and joined by Simmons' Economics faculty, the SOM is reimagining graduate business, management, and economics education at the graduate level after a university reorganization.

Job Summary:

We are eager to have the new Director of Graduate Programs begin early in 2025, so we will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews throughout the Fall of 2024. Working with SOM faculty and administration, the new Director of Graduate Programs will develop innovative, women-centered courses and programs that accelerate gender equity in business, economics, and management. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Management, the Director of the Graduate Programs will assist with the launch and direct the strategic growth of a newly developed 1-year Masters of Science in Management, comprised of stackable graduate certificates, as well as design and launch new graduate degree programs and graduate certificates within the School of Management to a women-centered market.

Primary Responsibilities:

The new Director of Graduate Programs will lead the innovative design and delivery of the Simmons University School of Management (SOM) Graduate programs. The individual will enter at the rank of Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Practice.

Core responsibilities include:

Entrepreneurial Leadership
  • Develop and champion new graduate program designs that give early career professionals without prior business degrees a rapid on-ramp to career progression;
  • Lead innovative course and program development that matches our women-centered disciplinary expertise with the needs of a highly competitive and rapidly changing graduate education marketplace.


Marketing
  • Partner with Simmons Offices of Graduate Admission, Marketing, and Communication to communicate the value proposition of a women-centered business, economics, and management education to the marketplace;
  • Develop relationships with existing and alumnae/i student populations at Simmons and other women-centered undergraduate colleges to support enrollment and program growth;
  • Develop relationships with industry partners as an onramp to support the career progression of early-career employees.


Student Recruitment and Enrollment
  • Manage the entire student recruitment and enrollment process for graduate certificate and degree programs.


Student Support
  • Advise and champion student success, building connections between students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, and business leaders to champion student program completion and career progression.


Staffing
  • Partner with the Associate Dean and Program Manager for Economics to deploy full-time faculty where opportunities exist;
  • Recruit, support, and evaluate adjunct faculty as needed.


Program Administration
  • Submit program proposals and modifications to the Graduate Curriculum Committee as needed to support existing programs as well as new programs;
  • Manage an ongoing process of program review, including assessing student and institutional outcomes;
  • Lead ongoing dialogue and integration between the faculty, the students of the Graduate Programs, and the business community.


Teaching
  • The Graduate Program Director will carry a part-time teaching load across one or more business and management disciplines.


Qualifications
  • MBA or Graduate Degree in Marketing preferred;
  • Proven success in marketing innovative graduate programs that drive enrollment growth and increased market recognition;
  • Substantial experience teaching and developing curriculum in one or more business disciplines, either within a corporate setting or in higher education programs;
  • Track record of strong entrepreneurial and/or intrapreneurial program development and sustained program growth;
  • Experience working collegially with existing faculty to establish and lead Graduate programs of high quality, high efficiency, and high engagement with the business community;
  • Proven commitment to diversity and global orientation, and to infuse these into the Programs;
  • Highly effective communicator, both in writing and speaking.
