- Responsibilities
- Juris Doctorate (JD), Master's or other advanced degree in higher education, social work, psychology, sexuality/gender studies, human resources, or other discipline with substantive coursework relevant to equal opportunity and Title IX. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)
- Minimum of five (5) years of,
- Increasingly progressive experience with federal and state laws, the legal landscape, and higher education policies and protocols related to equal opportunity and Title IX compliance.
- Experience conducting investigations of complex complaints of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation in a higher education environment.
- Increasingly progressive experience developing and administering policies, procedures, and prevention/education programs in higher education related to equal opportunity and Title IX compliance.
- Demonstrated commitment to equal opportunity and Title IX compliance, and their role in the life of a comprehensive university.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships across all units and divisions of the University (e.g., Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Finance & Administration, Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, Information Technology, Advancement, Institutional Diversity, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with external entities, such as at the system, state, and federal levels (e.g., Minnesota State System Office, Minnesota Management & Budget, Attorney General's Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Civil Rights, US Department of Education, Minnesota Department of Higher Education, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to achieve compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) legislation and regulations (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964), Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act of 2014, case law (e.g., "Game-changer" cases), and other federal and state legislation, regulations, and guidance documents.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate complex complaints related to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in employment and education, sexual misconduct and violence, and/or related matters.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee coordination, communication, and implementation of campus-wide education and prevention programs and services to monitor and ensure equal opportunity and Title IX compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee development and review of university policies, procedures, and practices to ensure equal opportunity and Title IX compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage resources (e.g. financial, personnel, facility, technology, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, develop, and/or lead staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead collaboratively and courageously, to find innovative approaches to solve problems and achieve ambitious goals.
- Knowledge of new developments, current standards, effective practices, and challenges and opportunities in equal opportunity and Title IX compliance in higher education.

The Director, Equal Opportunity & Title IX reports to the University President and serves as the primary institutional representative for Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) legislation and regulations (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964), Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act of 2014, case law, and other federal and state legislation, regulations, and guidance documents. The Director works directly with senior level administration to ensure that equal opportunity and Title IX principles and requirements are being followed in all aspects of the University's strategic planning and operations. The Director is primarily responsible for investigating complaints under Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State) Board of Trustees Policies 1B.1 Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination in Employment and Education and 1B.3 Sexual Violence Policy, as well as matters related to the 1B.2 Affirmative Action Policy. The Director is responsible for overseeing implementation and assessment of campus-wide education and training programs; development and review of university policies, procedures, and practices; coordination and communication of programs and services; and collaboration with diverse stakeholders to monitor and ensure compliance. The Director serves on the President's Expanded Cabinet, and serves as a representative of the University to the Minnesota State System Office, Minnesota Management & Budget, the Attorney General's Office, and other external entities (e.g., Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Civil Rights, US Department of Education, Minnesota Department of Higher Education, etc.). The Director supervises and manages the Office staff and resources.
