POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director is a dedicated inspiring visionary leader, spearheading experiential and co-curricular learning opportunities for Seattle Central, and is focused on student identity and leadership development and energetically supporting student involvement to create connections for student success.

Directly responsible to train, supervise, and assist, Student Leadership staff in the integration and application of outcomes-based assessment, and student engagement and mentorship practices that are multicultural student development centered.

The Director responsible for supervising the recruitment, training and involvement of students in the various Student Leadership Boards (Associated Student Council, Cultural Programming and Development, Student Involvement (clubs), Information Central, and Student Publications) and for coordinating with the Mitchell Activity Center and International Programs to ensure a seamless, campus wide system of student involvement opportunities with an approximate budget of $600,000. Broadly champions Student Leadership to the wider campus community. This is a full-time 12 month Exempt Staff position.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Hire, supervise and evaluate the work and development of staff. Support, inspire and mentor staff, fostering a culture of excellence, equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in all aspects of staff and student leadership development and programming. Leading staff, developmentally in creating a stellar student leadership program including curriculum development, learning outcomes and assessment.

    Works with staff, and collaborates with key departments and programs, to develop and implement an innovative, student centered leadership program and achievement initiatives (Welcome Week, Fellas Friday, Leadership Institute) that applies student development theory. Support student learning through co and extra-curricular programs and other outside classroom learning experiences. Provide a program that impacts a broad, cross-campus student population.

    Oversees development, use and presentation of Student Leadership communication, marketing and publications. Informs students and promotes program engagement to create community and campus life and student engagement.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
  • Master's degree in education, student development, or related field and three years experience working in a higher education system OR combined equivalent education and experience
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment with a diverse population and knowledge of Social Justice Framework
  • Supervisor experience with the ability to coach others to reach peak performance and guide staff to a common goal
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse and multicultural community
  • Experience working with historically underserved students of color, particularly African American males
  • Experience developing strategic systems and implementing assessment strategies
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and experience in leading teams in projects
  • Time management skills
  • Experience with social media to promote programs and activities
  • Demonstrated excellence in communications, to include effective public speaking and writing
