Essential Functions:
The Director will be responsible for the daily management of the Child Development Lab School and plan for the safety and well-being of children and staff; and teach at least one child development course in the fall and spring semesters. The duties will include that the Director coordinate nutritious meals and snacks for the children; provide bimonthly updates to the Department Chair; ensure compliance with state regulations and NAEYC Accreditation Standards; maintain fiscal and data records; prepare and apply for the star related license issued by the State of North Carolina, and NAEYC accreditation at the appropriate times; prepare budget plans and projections; collect and receipt fees, and report finances to the Department Chair; recruit students as needed to meet enrollment quotas; hire qualified personnel, monitor and approve staff and work-study student time sheets; order equipment, materials, and supplies; and organize and carry out fundraisers to benefit the CDL School.
Minimum Education/Experience:
The position requires as a minimum, a Masters Degree in Child (Human) Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education or related degree; Birth-Kindergarten License; five (5) or more years supervisory experience with children age 3-5 years; experience managing a Child Care Center.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Teach at least one child development course in the fall and spring semesters in the Department of Human Sciences; responsible for daily management of the Child Development Lab School and provide bimonthly updates to the Department Chair; encourage and arrange for staff development while recruiting students as needed to meet enrollment quotas; ensure faculty, work-study students, volunteers, and students are informed of their role and responsibilities while observing, working, and interacting with young children to assure developmentally appropriate experiences; review all requests for research involving the children enrolled in the Lab School and make recommendations to the Department Chair.
The Director must have the ability to review and approve lesson plans prepared by teachers, and collaborate with teachers about the daily schedule used with the children; prepare budget plans and projections; collect and receipt fees, and report finances to the Department Chair; hire qualified personnel, monitor and approve staff and work-study student time sheets; order equipment, materials, and supplies; and organize and carry out one fundraiser to benefit the CDL School.
The NCCU Lab School is accredited; therefore, the Director must be able to prepare and apply for the star related license issued by the State of North Carolina, and NAEYC accreditation at the appropriate times; identify and access community resources; plan and preside over parent meetings; attend professional meetings, conferences, seminars, as funds are made available, and attend and engage in the Durham County Directors meeting as held. Lastly, the Director must always plan for the safety and well-being of children and staff, and coordinate nutritious meals and snacks for children.
The ability to work with diverse populations; coordinate a comprehensive child care program; work with Child Development Lab (CDL) staff, Department faculty, other University faculty, University students, and the broader community; collaborate and network with other child care providers, or agencies which offer services for young children or advocate for young children; organize and conduct in-service training and parent education programs; organize the program and maintain fiscal and data records are required.
