Job Summary
Simmons University is looking for a Director to manage and lead the Career Education Center (Center). Reporting to the Office of the Provost, the Director will be responsible for developing and delivering best practices in career education designed to ensure that Simmons undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumnae/i, are poised for professional success. From strengthening relations with employers to creating and implementing a multi-modal career education program, the Director will play a critical role in transforming career-readiness and excellence at Simmons.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:
  • Lead the design and launch of a career communities model, including state-of-the-art programs and multi-modal resources that represent best practices in career education;
  • Establish and implement goals for academic career integration, expanded employer relations, as well as increased alumnae career engagement;
  • Develop partnerships across campus, integrating career curriculum and learning outcomes while increasing the Center's visibility and accessibility in the student experience;
  • Coach and advise students and alumnae/i on preparing, developing, managing and transitioning their career;
  • Develop and expand content and resources (online, workshops, trainings, etc.) for directed and self-directed student career learning;
  • Oversee and administer data collection and reporting on employment outcomes, ensuring alignment with industry guidelines;
  • Oversee employer relations, developing relationships, identifying changes in the market, programming gaps and necessary skills for career readiness;
  • Develop and implement a robust event calendar including workshops, trainings, and employer networking opportunities;
  • Oversee all overall administrative operations, budget, outcomes reporting and marketing within the CEC;
  • Manage, supervise and lead the CEC team, providing coaching and professional development opportunities;
  • Oversee and manage department communications including the CEC website;
  • Serve on internal committees and attend external industry events as necessary;
  • Other responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant area;
  • 8+ years of experience in career services, including an administrative leadership role; experience in supervision, budgeting, organizational planning, evaluation, and the use of technology in career and employment counseling and development;

Additional Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of career development;
  • Program planning skills, including the development, budgeting, staffing, marketing, implementation and evaluation of programs and services;
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and assessments (e.g. MBTI);
  • Ability to build relationships across faculty, staff, students, employers and alumnae/I;
  • Staff planning and supervision of professional, support and student staff members;
  • Ability to apply state-of-the-art technology to daily programs and services;
  • Strong counseling, communication, and public relations skills;
  • Creative problem-solver who can continue to build on success and growth of office;
  • Ability to stay abreast of new trends in career development and appropriately apply these to the Center;
