Job Description:
The School of Education requires a qualified individual for the position of Director of Experiential Learning and Partnerships. The Director will enable quality field placements, clinical experience and internships across multiple programs including school and mental health counseling, higher education and instructional design, as well as traditional student teaching placements and internships. The role will be positioned within the new Academic Administration Unit (AAU) and report to the Faculty Director of Teacher Education Preparation & Undergraduate Studies.
The successful applicant will play a key role for the School of Education, expanding experiential learning opportunities, being the key point of contact with our field partners, establishing and maintaining an effective system of oversight and assessment of participants (students, cooperating teachers, school leaders), and coordinating with University entities (University Counsel, Risk Management, Bursar, Business Office, Curriculum Committee) to manage risks, to satisfy reporting requirements (e.g. Clery), and to properly account for tuition vouchers. The position may also manage niche study abroad and study away programs. The position will supervise staff.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in or closely related to Education, Higher Education, or Counseling (required).
- At least 5 years of professional experience in K-12 Public Education, or in institutions or agencies providing direct services in education or counseling (required).
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Strong background and knowledge of clinical practices in counseling or educator preparation contexts; excellent communication, organizational, data (analytic and management), and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to engage productively with school and district leadership, attorneys and educational officials.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and sustain a sufficient number of P-12, IHE (higher education) and community partnerships to meet present and future student demand in the broader central New York region but extending to New York City and less frequently in out-of-state locales.
- Verify that clinical and field placements meet program, school, college, state, and accreditation standards and policies, ensuring diverse experiences within all placement settings. Develop internal policies and practices to track learner outcomes. Utilize University systems to provide assessment data as needed to support accreditation requirements and program development.
- Develop and document internal policies and practices to manage risks in the field. Coordinate with University Council, Risk Management and other offices as may be needed to establish appropriate agreements to secure desirable placements.
- Conduct pre-clinical placement meetings, trainings, and orientations for students, K-12 educators, and faculty. Maintain current Field Experience, Internship, and Mentoring handbooks.
- Implement and maintain a system of quality controls for assessing student outcomes, cooperating teacher/host/supervisor performance/satisfaction and continued building/district or agency efficacy.
