Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder College of Music seeks an accomplished tenure-track faculty member to serve as Director of University Bands and Conductor of the Wind Symphony working collaboratively with the College of Music faculty to promote and advance the University Band program. The successful candidate will provide strong artistic vision, leadership and mentorship for the students within the program. Appointment will commence in August 2025.

The University of Colorado Bands have enjoyed a rich history of excellence. Since the formation of the College of Music in 1920, only four individuals have held the Director of Bands position. The graduate wind conducting program has also gained national and international recognition for the quality of its graduates working in the profession.

The College of Music offers degree programs in Performance, Jazz Studies, Composition, Theory, Musicology, and Music Education. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Serve as Director of University Bands and Conductor of the Wind Symphony. Supervise and guide all aspects of the band program. Coordinate curriculum development for Wind Conducting studies including:
    • Teaching an undergraduate conducting fundamentals course
    • DMA and MM conducting and literature studies
    • Serve as primary advisor to graduate wind conducting majors
    • Recruit, train, and place graduate students in professional positions
  • Continue regular performance of standard repertoire for full and chamber-sized wind ensembles, works by historically marginalized composers, and the commissioning of new works.
  • Continue artistic development through professional activities on and off campus and participate in College and University service including both in-state and out-of-state outreach/recruitment activities.
  • Continue the strong tradition of the University Band program within the College of Music's vision for the development of the next generation of successful musicians.

Full-time Associate or Full Professor, tenure track.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary range is $93,000 - $108,000 for associate professor or $108,500 - $150,000 for full professor, plus possible summer research stipend. Onboarding assistance is available.

What We Require

An earned doctorate in music, or commensurate experience, is required. (i.e., a Master of Music plus a distinguished record of professional performance, conducting, teaching, and creative and scholarly activities).
The successful applicant will demonstrate outstanding achievement as a wind conductor at the university and/or professional level.
