About the Opportunity
Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director for Cultural and Spiritual Life, the Director - Center for Intercultural Engagement advances cultural literacies for all students at Northeastern University. The Director provides operational leadership including strategic implementation, budgetary oversight, and assessment of programs and services at the Center for Intercultural Engagement. The Center advances social awareness, cultivates community connections, deepens cultural literacy, and strengthens resources to support inclusion of all learners. With a focus on exploring the connections and dialogue within, between, and across identity groups, the Center develops and delivers a multi-modal intercultural learning program to equip students with awareness, knowledge, and skills that recognize, respect, and affirm perspectives, experiences, and contributions of all at Northeastern. The FUNL program, housed within the Center, establishes and strengthens cross-institutional community and resources to ensure that first-generation, undocumented, and low-income students thrive at Northeastern
The Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) seeks a director with proven effectiveness in identity-based programming to lead the evolution of the Center. Working collaboratively with university and community partners, the Director identifies key priorities and partnerships that advance intercultural learning and student success on the Boston campus and across the global network and is a positive representative of the Center to the university community. The Director may lead/co-lead several collaborative initiatives, as needed. A key member of the Cultural and Spiritual Life (CSL) Leadership Team, the Director will be a good university citizen, possess a multi-faceted approach to identity-based and student success programming, demonstrate effective team management, and have a proven record working with various internal and external stakeholders.
Evening and weekend support is required as needed, based on institutional priorities.
Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field with at least 5-7 years of professional experience in higher education (or a related field), preferably in areas closely related to cultural studies, sociology of education, intercultural communication, or related discipline. Demonstrated experience and success with staff supervision and leadership development is required Experience with community resourcing and a demonstrated understanding of related public policy landscape is highly preferred. Specific experience in providing direct services to historically underrepresented youth and young adults in an urban, multicultural, and global environment preferred. A proven record of change management is highly desirable.
Responsibilities Include:
Operational Leadership: Oversight of all administrative aspects of the spaces associated with both programs including but not limited to fiscal oversight; supervision and development of full-time professional staff and the student teams; and spearheading a creative community outreach/social media plan that is designed to reach students who capitalize on global experiences.
Program Leadership: Develop vision for programs, services, and outreach and execute them with clear learning outcomes and assessment plans. Ensure continual improvement to anchor programs as evidence-based and culturally responsive, inclusive of all learners.
Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strategic operational partnerships with city and community partners as well as alumni relations and university advancement to strengthen supports for key programs and services; develop and sustain capacity-building relationships across the global network; determine pathways of care for students served by the programs through critical relationships with university partners.
Committee Leadership: Lead, co-lead, and serve on unit, divisional, and pan-university committees for the design, delivery, and evaluation of key signature institutional priorities and ad-hoc special initiatives.
