Position Announcement
We invite applications for the position of Senior Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Utah Valley University. This pivotal role is responsible for the comprehensive administration of financial aid programs and scholarship initiatives at the largest university in the state of Utah.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of financial aid and scholarship programs.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Develop policies and procedures to enhance student access to financial resources.
- Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to support student success.
- Provide innovative leadership and approaches to aid packaging for all students.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Provides vision and oversight for financial aid and scholarship programs. Develops and refines policies and procedures to ensure compliance and support of university goals. Operations Management: Oversees the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. Manages the financial aid office and ensures efficient operations.
- Collaboration & Advocacy: Represents the university in financial aid matters at meetings and with external entities. Collaborates with departments and organizations to maximize financial aid opportunities. Compliance & Reporting: Ensures federal, state, and institutional regulations compliance. Prepares and manages reports such as FISAP and coordinates internal reconciliations.
- Fund Management: Maintains fund control records and manages financial aid budgets. Oversees the awarding of grants, scholarships, and loans. Staff Leadership & Development: Trains and supervises financial aid staff. Fosters professional development and effective performance within the team. Strategic Innovation & Trends: Stays updated on changes in financial aid regulations and industry trends. Implements innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency and the student experience.
- Additional Responsibilities: Assumes other duties as assigned by senior leadership to ensure the success of the Financial Aid Department.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Federal and state laws, regulations and institutional policies pertaining to financial aid administration.
- In-depth knowledge of financial aid management systems and software. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Banner financial aid system and related module components.
- Familiarity with budget preparation and management.
- Awareness of current trends and best practices in financial aid administration.
- Knowledge and experience with Financial Aid and Scholarship databases.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage and develop a team effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Analytical skills to assess financial aid applications and make informed decisions.
- Problem-solving skills to address and resolve issues related to financial aid.
- Employee development and performance management skills.
- Skills in formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for the financial aid department.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with various departments and external organizations.
- Competence in providing high-quality customer service to students and parents.
- Ability to stay updated with changes in financial aid regulations and adapt accordingly.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise both administrative and professional staff as well as student employees
