Position Description
Performs administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and program. Performs varied and complex administrative duties requiring independent judgment and the application of established policies and procedures. May provide supervision and direction to clerical, paraprofessional or professional staff members.
Major/Essential Functions
The Program Director position directs Special Populations and Career Advising program within the Texas Tech Honors College; and performs Honors College academic advising, career, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level, as appropriate. Program directorship is collaborative, and performance is measured on overall program results obtained, as well as on individual advising effectiveness. In addition, the Program Director position will be responsible for the following functions:
- Manage special populations advising (i.e., VIP and Accelerated students) and provide academic advising for these populations. During peak advising seasons, continue to broadly advise Honors College students, and provide educational guidance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, assisting with contracting, and determining appropriate Honors education solutions for students in various disciplines.
- Direct and manage career advising in the Honors College, (including collaborative facilitation of externships, internships, and alumni mentoring.) Plan, implement, and evaluate the College's career advising program's goals and objectives.
- Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the College's academic advising program's goals and objectives.
- Work closely with other advisors, staff, Career Center, faculty, Deans, offices, and student success specialists within the university, colleges, and departments to ensure student needs are forecasted and success of the unit is communicated.
- Regularly communicate and coordinate special populations and career advising needs with Honors College Deans, staff, and advising.
- Deploy data-informed strategies for managing and evolving the special populations & career advising program.
- Organize and lead events, activities, and campaigns designed to improve retention. Liaise with other advisors, staff, and Deans to increase student participation in retention activities.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of every student advising interaction using a variety of electronic record-keeping tools, including Raider Success Hub.
- Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to, membership in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and College training sessions.
- Stay current on changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course change deadlines, important dates, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
- Connect students to appropriate resources for mental health and basic needs identification.
- Promote student integration within the college and university campus.
- Attend Medallion and Convocation ceremonies within the College; support student participation in engagements within the College.
- Duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to design, develop, and implement community building instructional material.
- Background in Residence Life.
- Knowledge of multicultural environments.
- Ability to work independently.
